The EIT was officially established on 11 March 2008 following the adoption of the EIT Regulation by the European Parliament and Council. The EIT Governing Board designated the first three EIT Innovation Communities (EIT Climate-KIC, EIT Digital and EIT InnoEnergy) in December 2009. EIT RawMaterials, EIT Digital, EIT Climate KIC, EIT Food, EIT Manufacturing and EIT UrbanMobility have created a Cross-KIC action to strengthen the collaboration of internal and external activities related to the Circular Economy. Based on the EIT Climate-KIC Healthy, Clean Cities Deep Demonstration, Cross-KIC Sustainable Cities focuses on the radical redesign of fundamental city functions to create ‘Transition SuperLabs’.
